Welcome!

Well hello there!

Welcome to the Professional Paws Academy Blog! If you’re reading this, then you obviously care abut pets as much as I do! If you want to learn more about pet care, dog training, and animal behavior, then you’re in the right place.

I am a dog trainer first and foremost so a lot of my posts will be dog-centric. I will definitely feature other animals (especially cats) in my blog entries, but Fido will be the headliner here.

With 9+ years of experience at a large pet retail store, 11 + years of positive dog training experience, and 12 + years of professional pet care experience, I have learned some tricks and tips that will help Pet Parents live happier, less stressful lives with their fur babies. I want to share these thoughts and concepts with you! I hope to provide thoughtful content on a wide range of topics including what dog training equipment to use (or not to use), prepping our pets for holiday celebrations, fun pet friendly activities in the Triad, and so much more!

I am knowledgeable about animals, but I am not a veterinarian. This blog is not the place to ask for or receive veterinary advice. Your veterinarian is the best person to go to if you have questions about your pet’s medical health since they have received 7 to 9 years of specialized college education and earned a medical degree. I am qualified to write a blog post on items to include in a first aid kit, but nowhere near qualified to identify the rash that your cat has. Please keep this in mind.

I also want to remind everyone that this is not the space to argue about training theories or methodologies. I have devoted years to studying learning theory and animal behavior, especially the behavior of canines. I welcome anyone who comes to this blog to learn and to improve on their communication and relationship with their dog, after all I am an educator. If your intent is not to learn, and it is to promote dog training tools or methods that are not based in science, please move along.

Please keep your comments to topics related to the blog post they are posted on. If you have a specific questions about your dog’s behavior, want to schedule a meet and greet for pet sitting, need to reschedule a private class, etc, please contact me directly. (All my contact info can be found on the Contact page on this website.) I would absolutely love to help, but posting these types of comments on the blog will only result in longer wait times for responses for you and for others. Nobody wants that!

Remember that I do reserve the right to delete comments that are inappropriate by nature or not suited for this blog. I will try not to act on this, but you can help me by keeping the above rules in mind and being kind and courteous.

I am so excited to begin this blogging journey with y’all! Please read my blog, make thoughtful comments, ask questions, and subscribe!
